I offer guided day trips to the world famous El Salto Lake for Largemouth Bass.

I also offer near shore trips in the same boat for Jack Crevally, Sierra, and Rooster Fish. ( See below for more information).

My guided trips to Lake El Salto consist of the following: round trip transportation to the lake, all fishing gear and tackle, lunch (chicken or sandwiches) , soft drinks & water (beer upon request),and Mexican fishing license.

I cater the trip to your schedule and time frames. It is about 75 miles from Mazatlan and takes just under two hours. I recommend leaving Mazatlan by four in the morning to take advantage of the early morning bite at the lake. If four is too early and you want to leave a little later, I am very flexible. We can leave at any time and still catch fish! If we leave early, we would typically fish to around 3-4 in the afternoon. This is a private charter and basically you set the times. If you are not staying at Casa de Suenos, arrangements for you to be picked up will be made.

We fish out of a sixteen foot Bass Tracker with a 50 hp Mercury Outboard. The boat has two trolling motors fore and aft. It has two swivel bass seats, one in the bow and one at the helm. I usually sit in the back and run the boat with the rear trolling motor. The boat also has a fish finder to aid in locating bass.

I recommend if you are a serious bass fisherman, for you to bring your own gear. If you have a favorite style of fishing, or a favorite lure and you want to bring them feel free! You may also want to bring your reels and use them on my rods as this is easy to transport to Mexico. If you want to bring a boatful of tackle or if you want to show up with just a hat in your hand it makes no difference to me!

I normally bring three bait casting rods and three spinning rods. I use Shimano Curado reels for bait casting. I fish all types of lures depending on the conditions. Most of the time is spent fishing shallow water deep in the coves with surface poppers, spinner baits, crank baits and worms. Over the course of the day I fish alongside you when it is convenient.

Rates: Two people on the boat for the day is $450.00 US
One person going solo for the day is $325.00 US

To book a 50% deposit is required and you can email: mazfishing@yahoo.com or call toll free from the U.S. and Canada: 925/608-8350 and ask for Jim Penn (English & Spanish spoken).

Near Shore Ocean Fishing Trips From Mazatlan

I also offer trips with the same boat to fish the islands that are only 1-3 miles from the harbor. My primary target is fishing for Toro, Sierra, Pargo, Corvina & Jack Crevally. We can fish these effectively because of the electric trolling motor on the boat. The Jacks are very boat shy and without the trolling motor it is very difficult to get close enough to the surfacing fish to hook them. The Jacks are normally present here in Mazatlan from November to April. I typically fish with light tackle and release all Jacks as they are poor eating, but fun to catch.

I also fish the surf line for Rooster Fish when they are present. This fishing is more hit and miss. I typically fish with live bait and slow troll along the surf line. Both species can be targeted in the same day. The area we fish is again, close to home and within five miles of port. I fish from 7:00 AM to noon. All fishing tackle and gear is provided along with soft drinks and water, as well as a Mexican fishing license.

Rates: Two people - $200.00 U.S.
One person - $150.00 U.S.

Same contact and booking information as above.

Deep Sea Fishing

For those of you that also like to fish for larger fish I would be pleased to make arrangements for any deep sea fishing trips through a local company in the Old Marina, which is close by.
